Manure processing produces different end- and sideproducts. Organic fertilizers are mainly exported or deposited on non-farming land in Flanders (gardens, parks..). Some other sidestreams are re-used as fertilizer on Flemish farming land, like the effluents after biological treatment.

Here you can find more information on the different types of end-products and the regulatory aspects

The chart below demonstrates the different types of end-products, which can be produced from manure, from organic fertilizers to effluent and even chargeable water.

Every end-product is produced using a specific technique or combination of techniques. The first step usually consists of a separation in a solid and a liquid fraction. Solid manure (poultry manure) and digestate are also processed directly.

Here you can find more information on the composition and use of effluent after biological treatment.

Manure processing installations often need an air treatment system to eliminate odour and ammonia emissions.
The discharge water, containing the eliminated N, can be used as a fertilizer on farmland. Both chemical as biological air treatment systems are used.
More information on the use of ammonia sulphate as a mineral fertilizer can be found here.
