H2020 project SYSTEMIC starts with webinars

22 april 2020

The SYSTEMIC project aims to demonstrate how nutrient recovery from digestate is possible on a large scale. For this, 5 European digesters with extensive digestate processing were studied in detail.

Due to the corona measures, SYSTEMIC would also like to use webinars for the further dissemination of project results. These are online presentations that can be watched live or afterwards.

H2020 project SYSTEMIC starts with webinars

Content of the webinar

Financial business case evaluation- Ludwig Herman, Proman Consultancy -15 minutes

One of the objectives of the SYSTEMIC project was to draw up economic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These are quantifiable measures used to evaluate the success of biogas business.

A number of specific KPIs were identified in SYSTEMIC, which seemed most suitable for measuring the financial performance of the biogas company.

The values of these KPIs demonstrate:

• Is the company profitable

• Which business activities contribute significantly to the profitability of the company

• Which business activities perform poorly and undermine the profitability of the company

These values can also be compared with KPI values from other biogas companies.

The KPIs have already been determined for 4 demo plants in SYSTEMIC.

Market research products recovered from digestate- Marieke Verbeke, VCM-15 minutes

In the SYSTEMIC report “Market research in Europe”, the need for nutrients in the different “Outreach” regions in the SYSTEMIC project was mapped.
These are the regions where SYSTEMIC's 10 Outreach Biogas companies are located.

By processing the digestate with different technologies, new end products are obtained for which there is usually no market yet because they are new on the market and unknown to the end user.

It has been listed which conditions or characteristics are desired for these end products by the end users (farmers and fertilizer industry).

Taking into account the nutrient needs in the region, a number of products and markets were suggested for each Outreach Location.

Finally, the potential of some niche markets for recovered nutrients and organic matter from digestate was investigated.
